Tartu Observatory will host a training course “Optical and SAR Copernicus data for land applications” that will take place from February 19 to 20. The course is organised by the European Space Agency using the RUS Copernicus resources.
RUS Copernicus will provide a two-day hands-on training session, where participants will access a Virtual Machine from their own laptop to exploit the open source toolboxes available in the RUS environment to download and process Sentinel data.
RUS hands-on exercises focus on four topics:
- crop Mapping using Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2
- flood mapping with Sentinel-1
- burned area mapping with Sentinel-2
active fire detection with Sentinel-3

Applications are open until January 30, but will close as soon as the limit of participants has been reached.
Please note that the RUS Copernicus Virtual Machines used for this training course can only be provided to citizens/residents of the Copernicus programme member countries (EU plus Iceland and Norway).
Attendees must bring their own laptop/mouse and will be provided the access to the RUS platform Virtual Machine.
The course is in English. Attendance to the training course is free of charge, however travel, lunch and accommodation expenses are excluded.
