On 1 April 2026, Antti Tamm began his third term as director of the Tartu Observatory. The council of Tartu Observatory unanimously re‑elected him at a public meeting held on 20 February.

Antti Tamm defended his doctoral thesis in astrophysics at the University of Tartu in 2006. Since 2005, he has worked at Tartu Observatory as a research fellow and senior research fellow, and since 2021 as an associate professor. His research interests include the formation and evolution of galaxies, galaxy structure, stellar populations in galaxies, the properties and distribution of dark matter, and cosmic dust.
