Tartu Observatory opened an exhibition of Hubble's space photos
This year it is 30 years since the Hubble Space Telescope was launched to orbit. For the anniversary, stunning space photos taken by Hubble can be seen at Tartu Observatory in Tõravere.
Hubble can undoubtedly be considered one of the most productive telescopes, having given astronomy a lot of new important information about the Universe. Over the past 30 years, Hubble has been used for about 1.4 million observations and more than 17 000 research papers have been published thanks to the telescope. Among other things, Hubble has been used to determine the age and rate of expansion of the Universe.
The Hubble telescope has also shown the Earthlings, how good of an artist the Universe is. Photos taken with Hubble are unique and always enjoyable. The telescope has been used to take photos of both closer and further galaxies. The fact that Hubble is located in space gives it a great adventage over the telescopes on Earth: the photos are not blurred by atmosphere or light pollution.
Hubble made it to space on April 24, 1990. The space observatory is named after astronomer Edwin Hubble (1889–1953).
