Comet Interceptor - OPIC Engineering Model Development
Comet Interceptor is the first F-class mission of the ESA Science Program, with a target launch date by 2028, together with the ARIEL mission. Tartu Observatory, Univsrsity of Tartu is tasked with building the instrument Optical Periscopic Imager for Comets (OPIC) for taking close photos of the comet. The specific project is for developing the engineering model of OPIC for the internal mission deadline in 2022, for which time the instrument must be able to demonstrate critical functionality. ESA earmarked the funding based on proposal NPMC-CometInterceptor-EE-1, submitted to the National Project Managers Committee of the mission.
