Integration of remote sensing image processing methods for forest resource assessment
Estonian National Forest Inventory (NFI) started in 1999. The summary estimates are based on 5600 sample plots from which about half are located on the forest land. The estimates are fundamental for state level reporting and forest policy development. The goal of the project is to develop remote sensing data processing methodology for the Estonian NFI. The main targets are estimation of tree species composition, forest height and wood volume and construction of corresponding maps. The maps can be further used for monitoring and forest management planning purposes.
