Come visit the Big Telescope!

Tartu Observatory and the Astronomical Society of Estonia invite you to celebrate the 50th birthday of the Tõravere big telescope!
 
On 12 October, starting at 15:00, there will be presentations about the telescope, a demonstration of telescopes and, on a clear day, a joint observation night. Bring your own telescope if you can.

 Presentations (in the main hall of Tartu Observatory)               
  
15.15—15.45      The First Light (Indrek Kolka)
15.45—16.15Science with the big telescope now and in the future (Anni Kasikov)
16.15—16.45Hobby observatories in Estonia (Üllar Kivila)
  
18—19Demonstration of brought telescopes at the observation field
  
19.00Start of the joint observation night at the observation field
  
18—20the Stellaarium and the big telescope tower will be open

 

  At 5 PM, the Bear Café will open for one evening in the main building.

  Dress warmly and bring a flashlight to walk around in the dark!
N.B. In case of cloudy weather, telescope demo will take place in the observatory's main hall.
