Council of Tartu Observatory

  • sets the Institute's development priorities;
  • decides on the Institute's teaching and research and development activities;
  • initiates the opening, modification and closure of programmes of study;
  • approves the Institute's budget and monitors its implementation;
  • selects the Institute's lecturers, assistants, teachers, senior researchers, researchers and junior researchers;
  • takes a position on the nomination of professors, associate professors and senior researchers;
  • decides on the awarding of doctoral degrees on the basis of curricula approved by the Senate in accordance with the procedures in force at the University;
  • establishes the Institute's research departments and other organisational units;
  • establishes the rules of procedure of the Council;
  • is responsible for implementing the principles of quality management in teaching and research and development;
  • submits the necessary reports to the Council of the Faculty of Science and Technology; decides on any other matters within its competence conferred on it by the Statutes of the University or by other legislation.
