Five Tartu Observatory employees awarded with University of Tartu Badges of Dinstinction

In the beginning of November, the University of Tartu announced the recipients of its decorations. Among them are five employees of Tartu Observatory, who were awarded with the University of Tartu Badge of Distinction.

The recipients are

  • Hendrik Ehrpais, engineer, PhD student in physics at the University of Tartu and CTO of the Estonian Student Satellite Foundation (ESTCube);
  • Andres Kuusk, counsellor. From 1992 to 1997, associate professor of the University of Tartu and Tartu Observatory's joint chair of biogeophysics, from 2005 to 2016, the head of Tartu Observatory's remote sensing department;
  • Laurits Leedjärv, senior research fellow at the department of stellar physics, recognized science popularizer. From 1999 to 2010, director of the observatory;
  • Anu Noorma, research professor in applied remote sensing, assistant director. From 2010 to April 2020, director of the observatory;
  • Peeter Tenjes, senior research fellow at the department of physics of galaxies and cosmology. From 2012 to 2017, professor of astrophysics at the University of Tartu.

The Badge of Distinction of the University of Tartu is awarded to employees of the university for outstanding job achievements and to individuals outside the university who have rendered valuable service to the university. The badge was founded in 2003.
