The evergreen Jaan Einasto continues on with his scientific work and publishing books. The second, updated edition of "Dark Matter and Cosmic Web Story" (World Scientific publishing) has been published, in which the author summarises the story of his discoveries and research into dark matter and the cosmic web, while telling his personal life story and of the changing political circumstances in parallel. On 28 May 2024, the book will be on display, and Peeter Tenjes, Associate Professor of Astrophysics, will be giving a short presentation on the science behind the book.
Over the course of his 95 years of life and 75 productive years of research, he has amassed a considerable collection of objects and scientific materials of special significance. The second half of the event will be dedicated to the handing over of Jaan Einasto's scientific and material heritage to the University of Tartu. The research materials will go to the UT Library, the artefacts to the UT Museum and the UT Tartu Observatory. Some of the objects and their stories will also be on display during the reception.
