Space Technology Laboratories Reached a New Accreditation

The Laboratory of Space Technology reached accreditation according to the new version of the standard EN ISO/IEC 17025.

The laboratories of Tartu Observatory joined with the Testing Centre of University of Tartu on July 26, 2018. In November of the same year, services offered by the Laboratory of Space Technology were accredited according to the standard EN ISO/IEC 17025:2005.

However, there was no time to take a long break, because on November 30, 2017, the European standardisation organisations announced the new version of EN ISO/IEC 17025, which would completely replace the superseding version of 2015. According to the resolution by the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) a transition period of three years was announced. At the end of the transition period, on November 29, 2020, accreditation of a laboratory to ISO/IEC 17025:2005 will not be recognised anymore.

Finally, after a year of intense work on transition to the new requirements of the new standard, the Laboratory of Space Technology as a part of the Testing Centre of UT successfully passed the evaluation visit by the Estonian Accreditation Centre and gained the accreditation according to the new version of the standard EN ISO/IEC 17025 (2017).
