Practical remote sensing online course is open again

Tartu Observatory invites everyone to participate in the MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) "Remote sensing practical case studies based on Copernicus data." The eight-week course will focus on solving case-based problems.

The course consists of an introductory and four case-based modules. Each new module is preceded by an overview of the theory. A test at the end of each module is required to pass the course.

Upon successfully finishing the the course, you will be capable of:

  • using satellite data,
  • applying image processing techniques
  • conducting spatiotemporal analyses and
  • visualizing results

For example, you will learn how to use remote sensing tools to determine the extent of algal blooming in different water bodies, changes in the area of agricultural land, etc.

A MOOC, or Massive Open Online Course, is a fully web-based continuing education course with open registration, allowing anyone interested to participate for free. MOOCs aim to provide access to higher education for various target groups while introducing and diversifying university learning opportunities.

The total duration of the course is 26 academic hours and 1 ECTS. The registration is open from 20 September and ends on 1 October. Students can also register via ÕIS (LTTO.TK.001).

Participants who meet the requirements for completing the MOOC will receive a digital certificate from the University of Tartu.

Estonian personal identification number is required for the registration. If you do not have one and you are not a student of University of Tartu, please contact Ave Ansper-Toomsalu (ave.ansper-toomsalu@ut.ee) directly.
