Students at Science Olympiad Practiced Studying the Atmosphere of Venus
In the final round of the Estonian Science Olympiad held last Saturday, students prepared to study the habitability of Venus' atmosphere. The competition tasks were inspired by the sensors being developed at the Tartu Observatory of the University of Tartu for the international Venus research project Venus Life Finder (VLF).

Iaroslav Iakubivskyi defended PhD thesis "Nanospacecraft for technology demonstration and science missions"
On December 22 at 2.15 PM, Iaroslav Iakubivskyi defended his PhD dissertation "Nanospacecraft for technology demonstration and science missions". A successful defence gained him a doctoral degree in physics from the University of Tartu. The defence took place both in person at Tartu Observatory in Tõravere and virtually. The first Christmas video of the university was released on 28 November, the First Advent Sunday. The project was led by the International Cooperation and Protocol Office and the video was produced by Jopp Creative, a Tartu-based creative agency.

Iaroslav Iakubivskyi will defend PhD thesis about nanospacecraft for technology demonstration and science missions
On Wednesday, December 22 at 2.15 PM, Tartu Observatory's Junior Research Fellow in Space Technology Iaroslav Iakubivskyi will defend his PhD dissertation "Nanospacecraft for technology demonstration and science missions". A successful defence will gain Iakubivskyi a doctoral degree in physics from the University of Tartu.

Estonian scientists start looking for signs of life on Venus on a set of private space missions
Tartu Observatory is in a consortium of scientific institutions and private companies to prepare a set of three space missions to Venus to search for signs of life in its atmosphere. The project is expected to conclude with a return of samples from the Venusian atmosphere to Earth.

We'd like to start teaching and studies in the autumn as normally as possible and meet face to face in class, and therefore it is important that as many of our new and returning students and university staff as possible are vaccinated. To mark the 103rd anniversary of the Republic of Estonia, Rector Toomas Asser and Academic Secretary Tõnis Karki placed flowers at the Estonian War of Independence Memorial to Fallen Students in the university’s assembly hall.
