The University of Tartu organised the largest number of international conferences in Tartu last year, and 13 of them won recognition.

In the week leading to the anniversary of the Republic of Estonia, the University of Tartu announced the recipients of the university's contribution to society award, research award and language award, and the teaching staff of the year award.

Astronomer Laurits Leedjärv was awarded the Golden Prize 2024 by the journal Akadeemia for his article "Life in the best possible world".

On 15 November, the Estonian Research Council recognised outstanding science communicators at its annual science communication conference.

On 25 October, the University of Tartu senate decided to award the University of Tartu Grand Medal to Professor of International Business Urmas Varblane. Also, the recipients of the University of Tartu Star of Appreciation, Medal, Badge of Distinction and the decoration “100 Semesters at the University of Tartu” have been announced.

Nominations for the Tartu Observatory's Star of the Milky Way can be submitted until 30 September.

Nominations can be submitted via the web form until 20 September.

On 29 May, the Estonian Human Rights Centre presented the "Respecting differences" label to the University of Tartu for the second time at the joint building of ministries in Tallinn.

On 27 October, the University of Tartu senate decided to award the Johan Skytte medal to Margit Sutrop, member of the Riigikogu and Professor of Practical Philosophy at the University of Tartu. The highest award granted to university members, the University of Tartu Grand Medal, is given to two university researchers for services of particular value. Also, the recipients of the University of Tartu Star of Appreciation, Medal, Badge of Distinction and the decoration “100 Semesters at the University of Tartu” have been selected.
